One of the things I did this winter/spring was spend some time in Africa with family. As a whiskey enthusiast, I usually look for opportunities to visit whiskey shops to see what people in the world are drinking.
Typically, when i go to Ghana I drink beer. The heat of the tropics and the availability of great beer is the reason. To be honest, i wasn’t expecting much in the way of whiskey selection. Sure, you can find your usual Johnny Walker Red or Black label, or Jameson, but with mind open I went to a popular mall in the capital city.

What a wonderful surprise! The perfect dram for the perfect beach destination. Full of pineapple, fresh fruit, some brine, some smoke. In many ways this dram defines coastal West Africa. Friendly, approachable and a sensory adventure. Someone grilling meat on the beach, a pineapple seller close by.
Warm, earthy and long on the finish, it makes you pay attention to it.
As you know from previous posts, whiskey is a memory inducer for me. Now that I am back home, I know that Africa is just a dram away. Sometimes when i am passing by my collection, i catch a glimpse of that ocean scene purple box and I am instantly brought back to beachy, smoky, tropical Africa.
For those of you looking for your own adventure, give this one a try, you wont be disappointed!
