“It’s surprising how memories of good times with friends, of home and loved ones, can be reborn in a glass of whisky.”
Meet Chris
Some people discover whisky. Chris grew up on the shores of Conception Bay, Newfoundland — where the Atlantic wind comes in sharp and the stories flow easy. It’s the kind of place that teaches you to appreciate the slow, the deliberate, and the deeply made. It took a few years and a few drams, but eventually whisky felt like home.
That was nearly two decades ago. What began as curiosity has grown into something considerably more serious.
Today Chris is a Certified Scotch Professional and Certified Whisky Specialist, both recognized by the Council of Whisky Masters — the governing body for professional whisky education worldwide. He is also Smart Serve certified, meeting every legal requirement to serve alcohol responsibly across Ontario. These aren’t weekend certifications. They represent years of structured study alongside some of the world’s leading whisky experts, covering production methods, regional traditions, tasting technique, and the deep history behind every dram.
But credentials only tell part of the story.
Chris is an investor in Macaloney’s Caledonian Distillery — one of Canada’s most acclaimed craft distilleries and a multiple award winner on the international stage. He personally owns casks of whisky maturing at prominent Irish and Scottish distilleries, giving him a rare, hands-on connection to the production side of the spirit he loves. His personal bottle collection draws from distilleries across Scotland, Ireland, Canada, India, Taiwan, and Japan — a constantly evolving cellar that reflects a lifelong pursuit of the exceptional.
He has written extensively about whisky — reviews, distillery profiles, tasting notes, and opinion pieces that have built a loyal following among enthusiasts across the country. He has also created original whisky tools and study resources used by collectors and aspiring professionals alike.
Chris moved to Ottawa and saw an opportunity: a city with a growing appreciation for fine spirits and almost no one offering what he could — certified, authentic, deeply personal whisky experiences. Ottawa Whisky was born from that gap, and from a Newfoundlander’s instinct to bring people together around something worth sharing.
Whether you’re new to whisky or a seasoned collector, you’re in good hands.
