With rich smokiness from the blended Scotch, rounded bitterness from Campari, and a tart bite from fresh lemon juice, this whiskey cocktail from New Orleans is well-balanced and extra-refreshing thanks to a splash of sparkling wine. Dewar’s is referenced here but try your favourite lightly peated whiskey to put your own spin on this unique whiskey recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons (3/4 ounce) Campari
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons (3/4 ounce) blended Scotch whisky (such as Dewar’s)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) dry sparkling wine, such as brut Cava
  • Lemon peel strip or strawberry, for garnish

Directions

Combine Campari, Scotch, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Cover and shake vigorously until well chilled; strain into a cocktail glass. Top with sparkling wine, and garnish with lemon peel strip.
