Wild and untamed – Talisker Storm

blank

The isle of Skye is well known for its untamed beauty, abundance of wildlife and also Talisker whiskey, one of Scotlands best whiskies. It’s not on every shelf, but it should be.

The box perfectly describes what is waiting inside the bottle. It’s oceanic and unpredictable, yet beautiful and enticing. It’s earthy, raw, but alluring and keeps drawing you in.

Talisker Storm – 45.8% ABV

It has similar notes as the scotches of Islay, but has a complexity all its own.

It reminds me of a November day in Newfoundland. Standing on the beach watching the clouds gathering on the horizon out over the water. There is something mystical about to happen as you watch, maybe it is even a little foreboding. That how a pour of Talisker Storm is. It is raw, packed full of flavour and delicious in its layers of complexity.

This is not a simple whiskey. It has wave over wave of flavour levels that wash over your palette. First it’s smoked ham, then sea spray and then something spicy. It’s like Newfoundland weather, each min bringing a different sensation.

This dram challenges you. It dares you to take another, and I want to have another. I like having a whiskey in my collection that is different, presenting a challenge every time I pop the cork. Try the dram with a different glass, and it will change and surprise you.

The box says made by the sea. But that description sounds too weak. It is powerful, complex, ever changing and defines everything that lives in or around it. For me it is home, and I love that about Talisker Storm.

I wouldn’t recommend it for the faint of heart or the new whiskey drinker. it shouldn’t be your first dram, or your second, but it definitely should be on your wish list. It’s everything I love about whiskey. The complex layering of flavour and how each dram is a little different from the last.
